There are so many places to snack in Klaipėda that you may just about get spoilt for choice. Eating out in Klaipėda will be a great experience. For those who are partial to European cuisine, there are plenty of restaurants. Also there are plenty of restaurants offering menus of various countries of the world - from Lithuanian to Armenian, from seafood to steaks.
Travel to Lithuania and you'll definitely want to try out the local Lithuanian food. Visit any of Klaipėda's restaurants offering Lithuanian food and you are sure to be served the best cepelinas, vėdarai, potato pancakes and a variety of dumplings. Klaipėda also has a number of Chinese and Japanese restaurants. Delectable Turkish kebabs are also found in this town. However, if you are vegetarian then it may be a little disappointing, as Lithuania is definitely a meat eating country. At any restaurant, you may find a maximum of only three vegetarian entrees. However, vegetarians can take heart as the visitors can get vegetarian food at the Balti Drambliai and Sue's Indian Raja. Pizzas and fast foods are also available in the town.

Despite being a small country, each area of Lithuania has its unique ways in the kitchen. History has had a large part to play in the development of its unique cuisine. Having come under the influence of the English, Germans, Dutch, Prussians and French, Klaipeda's kitchens have borrowed a little from all of them. The fish preparations are famous in Klaipėda and everyone who has had it vouches for the fact that no one prepares fish the way Klaipėda residents make it.
Coffee drinking is popular and Klaipėda even had a coffee drinking ceremony once. Quite often, coffee is served with homemade cakes with a variety of filling such as cottage cheese, jam or fruit. As an integral part of the socialising, ladies would visit each other, bringing with them samples of their homemade cakes.
Before the World Wars, Klaipėda had a formidable reputation of having some of the best restaurants in Europe, which had their own summer and winter gardens. Klaipėda's clubs are genteel and sophisticated and have excellent kitchens which serve the best food. Beautiful promenade paths lead to the beach areas of Melnragė, Giruliai, and Tauralaukis, which have inviting cafes offering good afternoon tea and coffee. At these cafes you can choose from a selection of coffee like Turkish, Arabic, Brazilian and Mexican and even from Vienna, Athens, Berlin and Paris. Chocolate drinks are also available here.
