Klaipeda has a very interesting history being ruled by several nations over the previous centuries! When you're staying in Klaipeda you'll no doubt learn that it was initially founded by the Livonian order in the year 1252, then repeatedly raided by the Zemaiciai, Sembai and Lithuanian army. It was destroyed time and again but the local people rebuilt the Klaipeda city each time! In the 17th Century, Klaipeda came under the rule of the Swedes, but not for long as in 1757, the Russians were to take over and claim Klaipeda as their own! If you would like to learn more about this interesting history of Klaipeda and this region of Lithuanian, take one of our Klaipeda Tours!

Perhaps you won't know that it was not till 1923 that Klaipeda was actually incorporated as part of the Lithuanian lands. Though the name may again be Klaipeda, the city still retains the historic charm that people have come to love over the centuries! There are now plenty of things to do and see in Klaipeda and a range of quality Klaipeda Hotels to spend your next holiday in Lithuania!
